Burning Sauce and Big Lessons

Let me set the scene: it’s a regular weeknight, somewhere between kid pickup and extracurricular chaos. I’m rushing through dinner prep, trying to squeeze one more thing into an already overstuffed day. I toss a batch of hot sauce and veggies into the blender—and sometime in between "get your shoes on" (4th time) and "did you finish your snack"— was when the lid does something of an aggressive launch off, and the pressure causes the blender to explode.

In milliseconds, my face and arm are covered in blistering hot sauce. Boiling, literally. Above my eye, across my eyelid, and down my arm. My body screamed. My mind spun. And in that moment, everything…stopped. Suddenly, shoes didn't matter, dinner didn't matter and "running late"? For what exactly?

Sometimes the universe whispers. Other times it throws hot sauce at your face.

This accident was painful. Debilitating. And weirdly, exactly what I needed. Because it forced me to slow the hell down. It reminded me—gently and not-so-gently—that no one’s asking me to be a superhero. That rushing isn’t strength. That presence is.

It also gave me gratitude I didn’t expect. My vision? Unscathed. My face? Healing beautifully. My body? Still here, still strong, still mine. What other mom gets to look like Deadpool for a week or two? The extent of my injuries could have easily been worse. My kids were out of the kitchen. And while my arm may carry a slightly small but badass scar, my soul carries a big shift.

I’m learning that productivity doesn’t always mean pushing. Sometimes it means pausing. Taking a breath. Letting yourself be human, and calling it a frozen pizza night!

Because the truth is: even when you’re building a brand, raising babies, and trying to be everything to everyone—you still deserve to rest. You still deserve to heal. You don't have anything to prove to anyone, and your love is more than enough.

And in my case? You also deserve a blender that doesn't do this! (Yes, the next time I made the consommé for birria tacos, I used a hand blender )

Hot tips for healing wounds like this:

1. Stay TF out of the sun -- sunscreen + cover with clothing or wear a hat if you have to go out!
Link to sunscreen/tinted moisturizer that kept my skin safe, and makeup free:
2. Bathe in Silvadene multiple times a day- keep wounds drenched in this until healed.
Silvadene is a prescription, ask your doc for a script! They didn't automatically give it to me, so MAKE SURE YOU ASK! This stuff saved my face! Until then, use a antibacterial ointment with zinc, like this one.
3. Eat CLEAN and Drink WATER dammit!  This may be obvious for health reasons, but I have 100% faith that my wounds heal faster when I’m treating my body well! Lots of protein and collagen!
Link to the Collagen I drink daily
4. Gentle cleansers only, no scrubbing. Showers were painful, but I had to do it! NO scrubbing or exfoliating. As annoying as it is, dead skin and scabs will fall off all on their own, so let them!!! Don’t help them AT ALL. Bathe it all in Silvadene after!

The best gentle cleanser!- I've been using this for years
Gentle moisturizer (Korean and absolutely amazing!) They make a great mask too!
Hydrocolloid Band-Aids- for the tough to cover spots! This one is custom and works great!

I’ll be trying some scar healing things soon, and if they work miracles I’ll keep you posted! Otherwise, I think I’ll walk away from this SO very grateful it wasn’t worse!

All the peaceful, resting vibes and self love to you, friend! P

XO
Lisa
